Whimsy with a twist
Word Hunters
The Word Hunter trilogy is now well and truly out there. Our talks around and about are still in full swing with a few more to do before Christmas. And maybe a few in 2014.
The kids have been fantastic and we’ve had great feedback. I think I’m still ahead in the ‘Hello’ and ‘Ahoy’ challenge with Nick Earls.
The Lock
The graphic novel is progressing and some exciting things happening with it next year. I’ll hope to update you soon on this.
The story has bent and changed over time but where it sits now is pretty cool.
I’m throwing myself into this project after a stint of freelance that had held me back for some time.
I’ve bought an old Remington portable typewriter to create the dialogue. I wanted a traditional feel to the whole GN and not just handwritten. It will be typed then scanned and cut up in photoshop to create the final blocks of text. In the meantime I’ve created a temp font from the keystrokes as place holders.
UPDATE
Remington needs a service. Strange objects are falling off it. Good thing I have my font to keep going.
I need to build more puppets for some of the images.
Icecream logo design
I was asked to create a character for nitrogenie, the liquid nitrogen icecream magicians. I didn’t want the typical style of a genie, but something a little more mysterious and vibrant. It was then passed onto another designer who fleshed out the design onto other collateral.

Release date for the Unfettered images will be 14.01.14
Unfettered Project Update
All illustrations are now completed. It’s been a great ride whilst developing and creating the images. I hope the writers find and connect with an image to inspire them to write a great story.
Submissions will be released in January along with a website to view the illustrations.
I’ll post the details as soon as they become available.
I have done some behind the scenes shots and screen grabs, that might be interesting for budding illustrators, or just for interest sake.
Unfettered Project Update
Congratulations Heidi White who submitted her suggestion of Sunflowers and Sadness for the final Unfettered image.
Idea has been worked out and now I’m in the middle of illustrating.

Unfettered
A NEW project
Tiny Owl Workshop (new publisher in Brisbane Qld) contacted me after seeing my Sunday Sketches on twitter. They were intrigued at how the drawings were prompting writers to create stories.
We had a few meetings to discuss the idea of Sunday Sketches, and how we could create something specifically for writers. We have come up with a project called ‘Unfettered’. I’m working together with Tiny Owl Workshop to create 10 illustrations in colour and black and white that will be used by writers as inspiration for stories. We are still discussing the opportunities for what will happen with the stories and illustrations afterwards.

The illustrations will be released in January 2014 along with more information and submission guidelines.

Little Lucy
Little Lucy is a story that has built from a series of Sunday Sketches that I do most Sundays through my Twitter account.
I started doing sketches and found that a girl kept on appearing in them. After a while I decided to see where she wanted to go, and followed her on the journey.
A series of sketches have built up now and a story has developed. I’m currently writing the story and illustrating a few large images.
Here is Lucy riding a bird. The image is a progress shot. It’s about A2 in size and done in watercolour.
COVERT
Is an idea that has been building in my head. That’s all I can say for now.
The line work will be detailed and the characters will be quirky.
